Behind the scene

Rock in the Sea of Sorrow - 2023

The structure is made from fishermen styrofoam boxes, washed and dried, then cut into pieces and cluede together. Cut into shape and sanded down. It is then covered by thousands of small origami folded fabric pieces. The main fabric is linnen and cotton. There is also used fabric from clothes and jeans that has been worn by my family. The fabric has been stained by rust and paint.

The process of folding the fabric pieces took almost a year and I brought small bags of fabric with me to fold when ever I had a spare moment. The assembly took about three months from getting the structure right to pinning on individually each piece.

This art piece has very strong emotional ties to me as it is a turning point in my own artistic understanding and in my personal life.

It is now part of the French National Collection.
